Abstract: 
This web directory contains the migrated patient environment policy and guidance content (previously NHS Estates) The environment is an important element in the care that patients receive. Visitors, carers and staff are also concerned with the environment especially if it is inadequate or dirty and this web directory contains policies and guidance on how to improve the patient environment and the basic care services delivered within that environment Links are provided to: - · Clean hospitals – section contains information on the clean hospital programme, Patient Environment Action Teams, and link to the document “towards cleaner hospitals and lower rates of infection: A summary of action”. · Hospital food – section contains information on the Better Hospital Food programme, and current initiatives such as protected mealtimes, 24-hour catering, sustainability and seasonality, nutrition, flexi-menu and links to related organisation websites · Ward Housekeeping – section contains information on developing and setting up a ward housekeeping service, including what a housekeeper does, resources required and links to patient-focused standards of service. It also includes case studies, and material for running workshops on the subject. · Patient environment networks - Patient environment networks now operate in each SHA. The networks are made up of staff with a stake in the delivery of basic care services to patients. They meet regularly to share learning and good practice, provide benchmarks, identify staff training needs and support the modernisation of basic care services at a local level · Privacy and dignity – section contains information single-sex accommodation, dignity on the ward, nightingale wards, · The healing environment – section contains information on the effect of the environment on healing with links to further documents on ‘the healing environment’ and ‘the five senses’
