Sexually transmitted infections in men who have sex with men in the United Kingdom: 2011 report
Review, Surveillance data
Synopsis Men who have sex with men (MSM) should have an HIV test and sexual health screen at every new attendance to ensure no MSM leave a clinic with undiagnosed HIV or any other STI. One-to-one behavioural interventions should be available in STI clinics for MSM to reinforce safer sex messages and reduce HIV and STI transmission. Further studies are needed to understand the role of the recent infection testing algorithm in prioritising and accelerating partner notification. After treatment for a gonorrhoeal infection, MSM should be recommended to return to a clinic for a test of cure.
