Surveillance data
Abstract:
The Third Prevalence Survey of Healthcare-associated Infections in Acute Hospitals was carried out between February and May 2006, and was funded by the Department of Health. Individual hospitals are now able to access their own results via a secure web-based system and a report of preliminary results for England is available. The first National Prevalence Survey was carried out in England and Wales in 1980 and covered 43 hospitals. The second was in 1993/94, and covered 157 hospitals throughout the United Kingdom and Ireland. This link will take you to a summary of the prelimanary results which gives an overview of the prevalence rates for the specific catagories of infections which were included in the surveillance process. It also gives comparative data for infection prevalence rates for UK and Ireland (exc Scotland), England, Wales, Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland Press release http://www.his.org.uk/_db/_documents/Press_information.doc
