Antimicrobial Prescribing Practice in Australia: Results of the 2013 National Antimicrobial Prescribing Survey

Research study, Surveillance data
Abstract:
This National Antimicrobial Prescribing Survey (NAPS) report provides insights into prescribing practices for antimicrobials in 151 Australian hospitals. It will inform quality improvement strategies, at the hospital level, for appropriate prescribing. The report identifies a range of opportunities for intervention at a hospital, regional and national level to improve prescribing practice in Australian hospitals. It has generated some important new insights into prescribing practices and The Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care will consider developing a Clinical Care Standard for antimicrobial use in surgical prophylaxis, as it was the highest indication for antibiotic use.
