Abstract: 
This is the first annual report from the Welsh Antimicrobial Resistance Programme Surveillance Unit, and is aimed at providing an overview of antimicrobial resistance in Wales. Given the unique access to microbiological data available across Wales, the report has had to be selective in what is presented. Data presented Antimicrobial resistance data is provided for the following selected areas and specific pathogens: - Top ten bacteraemia pathogens - Urinary coliforms (community & hospital) - Wound swab isolates - Staphylococcus aureus including MRSA from wound swabs (community) - All specimens (community & hospital) - Streptococcus pneumoniae - Streptococcus pyogenes - Haemophilus influenzae - Campylobacter spp. Community data is from samples referred from a general practice and hospital data is from samples submitted from hospital in-patients.
