Extended-spectrum β-lactamase-producing Escherichia coli (ESBLs) and infection prevention through hygiene in the home

Factsheet
Abstract:
This leaflet has been put together to provide background information and advice on what to do if there is risk of spread of ESBL-producing E.coli in the home. This briefing material has been produced for those who work in healthcare professions, the media and others who are looking for background understanding of ESBL-producing E.coli infection and/or those who are responsible for providing guidance to the public on how to prevent the spread of ESBL-producing E.coli in their homes. The hygiene practice advice given in this document is taken from the IFH review document: Methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), Clostridium difficile and ESBL-producing Escherichia coli in the home and community: assessing the problem, controlling the spread.
