Abstract: 
This report describes the work undertaken by the Richard Wells Research Centre at Thames Valley University and commissioned by the Department of Health (England) to Review the Role and Responsibilities of Community Infection Control Nurses (CICN) and Communicable Disease Control Nurses (CDCN) in England in March 2002. It was commissioned to provide: · A comprehensive description of the current roles and responsibilities of CICN and CDCN; · A review of the current education and practice preparation of CICN and CDCN; · An analysis of the changes needed to develop the role of CICN and CDCN in line with the future pattern of provision of infection control services in the NHS.
