Abstract: 
This document gives guidance on choosing, purchasing, maintaining, replacing and disposing of equipment. It also emphasises the need to ensure that anaesthetists are trained in the use of their equipment and that technicians are trained to maintain the equipment. The MHRA publications, Managing Medical Devices DB 2006(05) and Devices in Practice – a guide for health and social care professionals (2008), are written from a technical point of view and should be used as an adjunct to the information in this booklet
