WHO Surgical Safety Checklist: for cataract surgery only

Best practice
Abstract:
This guidance should be used in conjunction with the WHO Surgical Safety Checklist Supporting Information document.   The development of this Checklist has been undertaken as a collaborative project between the NPSA and Royal College of Opthalmologists. This Checklist is adapted from the NPSA WHO Surgical Safety Checklist to ensure it is relevant and applicable to cataract surgery and all key clinical risks in this environment are addressed. It should be used for all patients having cataract surgery.   Local adaptation of this Checklist is also encouraged to ensure it is effectively integrated into clinical practice.  This may mean that some of the interventions are moved to the ‘team brief’.  Any adaptations should be undertaken in accordance with your local governance scrutiny process.
